At the very beginning of this work stands a great difficulty, that - before being able to start the process of composition - had to be fought with and then be resolved: In the current situation of 20 /21st century music nearly everything seems to have been tried and any form of notation and performance appears to have been experimented with. In other terms, the lack of space for originality and novelty in our time gives no point of departure for anyone who wants to compose in contemporary style, i.e. in truly contemporary style. Anyhow, what is contemporary style? Maybe what is most contemporary, is that our time lacks the defiltration of a fixed style, as former periods used to have. No common vocabulary, and a vast array of styles to listen to and methods to study. One could more correctly say that there are too many points of departure for a contemporary composer. What does one choose?en_GB
