Abstract: D-dimer is a very sensitive assay for the exclusion of venous thromboembolism (VTE), either deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE). However, its low specificity mandates the use of specific imaging tests to confirm VTE diagnosis and the high rates of false positive D-dimers result in many negative imaging [1].
