Abstract: . Techniques used to model the composite facesheets and the core of foam– filled composite sandwich panels subjected to quasi–static low–velocity impact by using the finite element method are described. Validity and computational cost of the techniques described are both taken into account in the setup of the complete finite element model of the sandwich panels. The complete finite element model is validated against experimental data of quasi–static indentation tests carried out in accordance with ASTM D7766–11 and ASTM D6267–98 on composite facesheets, grid–patterned polyvinyl chloride foam–filled sandwich panels fabricated by using the vacuum bagging process.
