Abstract: | Internal migration is a phenomenon exhibited in most of the free states of the world. Malta is no less. During the last forty years it has experienced a great change in the population balance hetween regions, where the once dominating Tnner Harhom Region, from the net population gainer of most of the colonial period, has become a net migration loser. In the process, all the other regions of the Maltese islands have gained population. This is population gain is exhibited most drastically in the small villages found in the West and South East of Malta, which till recently grew at a very small rate. Due to the small size of the island, the main cause of migration may not be economic as in most other cases, but rather more based on environmental and social reasons. This study examines the factors and the kind of people migrating to Dingli, a village in the South West of Malta. |
