| Abstract: | Malta became a member of the European Union on the 1st of May 2004. Throughout the years, integration with Europe had always been on the agenda of the two local dominant political parties, albeit with differences on how the Maltese approach towards it should be. Hardly had a year passed by since membership when Malta joined the Exchange Rate Mechanism of the Economic and Monetary Union, thereby declaring in an official manner its intention of adopting the Euro with 2008 being the earliest date possible. |
