The first objective of this dissertation is to analyse the competence of Malta's Competition Authorities in relation to EC Competition Law. The second objective is to assess the likelihood that an anti-competitive agreement, practice or conduct in Malta would also infringe EC Competition Law. Initially the dissertation highlights details about the Modernisation Reform which came into effect in 2004. Subsequently the focus shifts to national competition authorities in Malta and their competence in relation to EC Competition Law. The national competition authorities only apply EC Competition Law if there is an appreciable effect on trade and this concept is dealt with in chapter 3. The final chapter analyses the likelihood of a Maltese competition constituting an infringement of EC Competition Law.en_GB
