dc.description.abstract | La stregoneria neopagana trova le sue radici nella tradizione di Michelet, il quale suggeriva che la stregoneria europea discendeva da una religione antica. Questa idea influenza Sir James Frazer e altri antropologi e scrittori del diciannovesimo e ventesimo secolo. Nel 1899, venne pubblicato il libro Aradia, il vangelo delle streghe. Secondo Charles Godfrey Leland, l'autore del libro, un'italiana di nome Maddalena gli ricercò del materiale di folklore. A detta di alcuni, Maddalena inventò di sana pianta il manoscritto su cui si basa il libro di Leland. Lo escogitò in tal modo che piaceva a Leland. Secondo altri invece, il libro è stato creato dallo stesso Leland. E' indubbio che le prove che possono attestare I' esistenza della stregoneria in Italia, come viene descritta nel libro siano assai scarse. Comunque il libro mette in rilievo quello che uno studioso di fine Ottocento come Leland avrebbe cercato di scoprire da un simile culto. | en_GB |
