Abstract: The purpose of this qualitative study is to explore, in depth, the lived experience of the relationship between separated non-custodial father and their adolescents. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis was the chosen methodology for this research. Four participants contributed in the semi-structured interviews. Data analyses led to the emergence of five superordinate themes: (a) The effects of marital separation on the father-adolescent relationship; (b) Mother's influence on the relationship; (c) Separated father-adolescents' time together; (d) Separated fathers' opinion re being non-custodial fathers; (e) Fathers hindering partners' involvement in the discipline of adolescents. These findings were discussed in relation to the literature and recommendations for clinical practice and future research were also given. Hopefully this research would increase our understanding of these circumstances. Additionally, it could also be of relevance to separated families, couples and professionals working in this sector.
