Abstract: | This essay explores the role of one of the major characters in the Fourth Gospel, namely the Beloved Disciple, who is never mentioned by his proper name. It concentrates on the episode in which the Beloved Disciple is standing beneath the cross of Jesus alongside the Mother of Jesus. The essay tries to show how the Fourth Evangelist presents the Beloved Disciple as an ideal disciple for his readers. In doing so, it tries to manifest how this particular episode is related to other episodes in which this disciple features alongside other disciples. |
