The geography of viticulture : exploring the local terroir

Abstract

In preparing this dissertation I spoke to many people whom were immensely generous with their time and insight. Their input has been fundamental to the success of this project. While I hesitate to single out individuals, I must acknowledge some who truly went out of their way to provide me with information and additional connections. Special thanks go to my tutor Dr. John Schembri whose guidance and direction helped me decide on the concept of this dissertation and led me to make the most of this wonderful opportunity. I would also like to thank Marsovin Wineries with special reference to Wine Specialist Mr.Aaron Rizzo. I wish to express my gratitude to all those who kindly gave their time, attention and contribution to this study. Thank you to my boyfriend Keith and my sister Katrina, for their constant support and thorough patience. I give great thanks to all those working in the vineyards, the farmers who tend to their crops. They know that the quality of wine made from the grape the vines bear is in their hands, and they are not only proud of the responsibility but also honoured to be part of the action. Yet, outside the industry, they are unknown and get little of the credit. This is to remind them that there input is truly skilful and an essential part of the wine making process, thank you to the farmers I met when doing my physical fieldwork for this dissertation.
