Abstract: It must have been about 7500 years ago that the first Maltese set foot on Gozo, the northern island of the archipelago. This book, the first on the subject, is based on research at four times as many archaeological sites as known so far. It gives a completely new and fresh picture of the energetic and creative Ghar Dalam culture, its origin and their neolithic world view, unriddled by symbolic anthropological means. The many illustrated decoration motifs, although meant as religious imagery, could be seen as the first Maltese art.
