dc.description.abstractThis dissertation links the discourse revolving around the relationship between qualitative and quantitative problems of architecture and wellbeing, by endorsing a point of view that merges architectural physical and psychological realms. Intrinsically, the research investigates the subject and context related influence that could potentially influence the perception of daylight discomfort glare in home workspaces, with particular emphasis on the view presence and task difficulty. The initial research delves into the climatic and economic conditions in Malta and fundamentals of natural lighting. In addition, the investigation seeks to recognise possible concessions to avoid or accept the perception of discomfort glare. Furthermore, the research explores the role of the view quality and benefits on the occupants’ wellbeing and the perception of space, in association with visual comfort and perception of glare. The research questions are addressed through an intensive literature review and a questionnaire to gather qualitative and quantitative data about the participant and their respective home workspace. Subsequently, the gathered results were presented and discussed in regard to the literature review. Ultimately, the concluding chapter brings together the leading arguments discussed in the literature review and the empirical outcomes to distil a number of conclusions and suggestions, in connection to the role of architecture and its occupants’ physical and psychological wellness.en_GB
