Abstract: | Internationally, the conservation of natural heritage is a relatively new area of concern. The conservation of cultural heritage was initiated early in the 20th century and it was only till the late 20th century that natural heritage conservation started to be addressed. The purpose of this research study was to explore the approach towards the transformation of natural heritage features, which are key components of natural landscapes. Ten questions were developed to investigate the perception of six Maltese architects and two Maltese archaeologists following the collapse of the Azure Window in Dwejra, Gozo. Due to Covid-19, an online semi-structured interview was carried out with the identified participants. Following transcription, the results were gathered, analysed and discussed in relation to the reviewed literature. Similar opinions were reported by the participants. Results indicated that natural heritage features are to be appreciated as they are without halting the natural process, while limiting human impact which accelerates the natural transformation processes. |
