Citation: Ghirlando, L. (2002). Flamenco : the construction of a gender ideology by way of the dance (Bachelor's dissertation).
Abstract: Any art form, and therefore also flamenco, echoes (by conforming to or by denying) its socio-political context. On the other hand, art itself is used as an apparatus of political ideology. Artists themselves may - and they do - also use their art as a means for pointing to and deconstructing ideology. Flamenco, deeply embedded in the patriarchal ideology of Andalusian society from which it emerged, is rich in a language of gender. Andalusians acquire this flamenco language and in the professional sphere they also deconstruct and play with it.
