Abstract: In the course of this dissertation, I wiIl be discussing the views of various Maltese newspapers on a number of events that took place during the period 1932-1936. I have focused my study on the newspaper coverage of four issues. The first was the eIectoraI campaign of 1932. The second was the so-called 'TriaI of the Reds', (a court case with strong political overtones) and the third was the Ioss of the SeIf-Government Constitution. The fourth issue that I discussed was the Italo-Abyssinian War. For the purpose of my research I consulted as many issues as was possible of the various newspaper published in Malta in the period. I also examined despatches detaiIing correspondence between the Governor and the Secretary of State for the Colonies'. My other primary source of information were a number of oral interviews with a smal number of personalities whose memories regarding the period in question, found extremely useful.
