Abstract: Civic Committees appeared in Malta in the post-war era, as a war 'product' in line with the popular sentiment for reconstruction. They evolved in the fifties, mainly around the port area and by the sixties had spread across Malta, until their decline in the early seventies. In the following study an understanding of what these Civic Committees were, their rise, their activities and their decline, will be tackled. In the end one hopes to comprehend and assess the emergence of these local groups from a social and a political outlook, and to give them their proper place in the short historical period that they cover.
