Abstract: One thing that is immediately striking about the Maltese late Roman and Paleochristian catacombs is the variety of their tomb architecture which, as a consequence of the plastic qualities of the rock, gives them what Umberto Fasola aptly describes as, "un aspect architectonique qui stupéfie, et qu' on ne rencontre pas ailleurs".
