Abstract: The aim of my dissertation is, through the use of case studies, to investigate and compare several aspects of paintings on copper with emphasis on the materials and techniques used in these particular case studies as well as the painting techniques adopted by the artists and to try to establish a relationship between the techniques used and the deterioration of the paintings. In order to carry out the above investigations a number of qualitative analysis tests need to be done. These include; SEM/EDS tests in order to identify pigments. Plus FTIR tests in order to identify any organic matter present, like the binding media, together with cross section analysis to investigate the painting technique and stratigraphy.
