Abstract: | The financial crisis and resultant global economic slowdown caught many by surprise, but the underlying vulnerabilities in the financial sector had been building up for years. This dissertation argues for the inclusion of financial stress indicators as a supplement to the more 'traditional' macroeconomic indicators and tracks the lead up and impact of the crises on two small European states, Iceland and Malta. |
