Abstract: Confraternities provide us with a good opportunity to study and understand the history of laymen. This subject has often been neglected by traditional historians. These brotherhoods reflect the popular and religious culture and devotion. These provided the opportunity for lay individuals to participate in religious activities from a marginal perspective to an enthusiastic participation of members in both the rehgious and social spheres.
