This dissertation approaches how communicative methods can be used to create awareness about a mental illness. The medium of film is used to approach the subject of Bulimia Nervosa in an attempt to inform viewers of its symptoms and effects. Literature on eating disorders and the social aspect of film was explored to gather information on how best to approach the subject. Furthermore films and documentaries concerning eating disorders, with special reference to Bulimia Nervosa were analysed. A script was then created, narrating the story of a young woman suffering from Bulimia. The script was filmed and edited producing a fifteen-minute short film. The film was stylised to create a dark cold environment, showing the distorted view of the protagonist. Music was used as a tool to further involve the audience into the atmosphere of the film. The film’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as the director’s stylistic choices were analysed. The final product showed the director’s portrayal of bulimia in film.en_GB
