Abstract: Even if the origin and history of the University of Malta go back to when the Jesuit Collegium Melitense was established in 1592, it was in 1769 that the University was instituted in its modern form. When the Jesuits were exiled m that year, the new University assumed control of their assets and gradually brought within its fold the Order of St John's School of Anatomy and Surgery and School of Navigation. This publication marks and celebrates this 250-year milestone. [excerpt]
