Abstract: This dissertation deals with community policing and its impact on the Maltese population. Following an understanding of this policing philosophy, community dynamics and development are discussed with a view to grasp how community-oriented policing (COP) is functioning in Malta and how it benefits Maltese communities. The research conducted shows that through their constant interaction with the locals, experienced COP officers are succeeding to tackle local problems more effectively, hence contributing towards greater public satisfaction and increased trust in the police.
