Abstract: This thesis proposes and studies the use of a 6LoWPAN Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) in order to overcome the challenges of high interoperability amongst different sensing devices and the use of multiple end points like smart phones, tablets and notebook in home energy management systems. 6LoWPAN is an acronym of IPv6 over Low power Wireless Personal' Ares Networks" [1] which. enable lPv6 packets to be communicated on top of the IEEE802-15,4 low power wireless networks. The large IN6 header is compressed only to a few bytes by introducing an adaptation layer between IP stack's link and network layer. The transmission of 1280 bytes long IPv6 Maximum Transmission Unit (NUM over IEEE Sot 1514 is also made possible using fragmentation and reassembly, A WSN implemented using the Atmel AVR Raven modules along with the 6LoWPAN stack from Contiki OS. Dedicated analogue hardware is developed to interface each sensor with the AVR Raven board, According to current trends, the more likely popular user interface would be the web-enabled interface. Thus, the GUI of the Intelligent Home Energy Management (IHEM) is implemented using web-technologies which run over web-servers. This provides the mechanism to communicate with a broad range of computing end points that support 1P protocol, An intelligent energy saving logical algorithm is proposed to determine the human presence in the house. Based on this outcome, the IHM can control devices Cr even distribution circuits in order to prevent any loss of energy by turning them off whenever the house is empty. This is a fundamental key of the energy saving concept.
