Abstract: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and mobile platforms are two dimensions that are continually growing. ERP adoption in a business already enhances the business' efficiency and consistency by amalgamating all departments into one system. This study now addresses the integration of ERP and the mobile dimension to further extend the functionality of ERP for use in real-time by employees whose function takes them out in the field. This project covers the theoretical and technical side of building a mobile application integrated with ERR On the technical side, the choice of platforms and dimensions used for the purpose of this proof of concept is discussed. Using a number of third party APIs, the app developed optimises the route for deliveries and allows the user, through web services and authentication methods, to perform sales-related functions, such as 'returns', in real time, such that a great deal of paperwork — which would otherwise have to be conducted when back in the office — is avoided. The research carried out throughout this project suggests that the mobile aspect is an important missing dimension in many mainstream ERP systems, though this integration of technologies is becoming more sought after. In addition, surveys conducted show that this system delivers high value-added and is highly desirable for companies.
