| Abstract: | As mobile devices are becoming more ubiquitous, Location Based Information Services are becoming more popular. Location Based Information Services are services which use the location of the mobile device in order to give Information which is useful to a user in that particular location. LAMIR stands for Localised Adaptable/Adaptive Mobile Information Retrieval. It is a Location Based Information Service which attempts to be both Adaptable (allowing the user to apply filtering and other options), as well as Adaptive (learning from previous uses and performing the options itself). LAMIR is intended to allow users to explore the area and obtain particular information which will either be useful when making a decision about a location to visit, or which will be useful for a user who is at the location itself. LAMIR will generate a list of locations in a particular area - allowing coarse or fine filtering to take place upon them, for example allowing the user to only display Shops, or only display Supermarkets, sorted by distance from the mobile device, or by user ratings. The adaptive system builds a user model and uses it to perform the filtering automatically. The system displays some basic information and a rating in order to help the user decide on which location to query - and then allows the user to view short pieces of information about that location which he might find useful. The system allows users to input reviews, and to display a map displaying the user's current location and his destination. LAMIR was evaluated on multiple aspects, and gave results more efficient than current systems, though the Adaptivity could use some improvement. |
