Sir, Oral piperazine hydrate is an anthelmintic which is effective against intestinal nematodes, and is widely used in the treatment of Enterobius vermicularis infestation. We report a serum-sickness-like illness, followed by hypersensitivity vasculitis. associated with the use of this drug. Adverse reactions to piperazine are very infrequent. The commonest skin reaction is urticaria. McCullagh identified piperazine as an industrial allergen causing both contact eczema and occupational asthma. Delayed hypersensitivity reactions to this drug, however, appear to be very rare. [excerpt]en_GB
