Abstract: | The aim of this dissertation is to analyze the two female protagonists and narrators of 'Paraiso inhabitado' and 'Primera memoria' throughout the troubles they have in their lives, in order to examine the real world, possesed by the adults but feared by both girls, and the fantastic world they manage to create, as a comfort surrounding. This happens in a delicate stage in life, the entrance into adulthood. Some critics have suggested that 'Paraiso inhabitado' can be classified as a re-adaptation of 'Primera memoria' with the only difference that this proves a much more intimate and insight view of childhood. Both Adriana and Matia feel that they cannot adapt themselves in the world they live in so they manage to create a world of their own, in which Adriana gives space to her imagination and Matia finds shelter in emotional isolation from what surrounds her. |
