Abstract: The aim of this study is to analyse neologisms and lexical units with an English etymology used in the media related to sports and technology. Primarily, the first part of this study will include a chronological overview of the languages and the nations that contributed to the formation of the Spanish lexis. However, a language doesn’t stop to develop once it establishes its basic vocabulary. Languages keep evolving parallel to the evolutions of everyday life. This explains why all languages, including Spanish, have a series of morphological processes which help innovate their vocabulary. These processes include also the process of abbreviations and clipping and linguistic borrowing (lexical, semantic and loan translation). All of these, together with a brief study of the concepts of neology and neologisms, will be handled in the second part of this study. In the practical part of this dissertation, online articles and others taken from printed magazines will be utilized to extract examples of words which have been influenced by the English language or which are taken directly from this international language. Subsequently the research methodology will be explained and different reasons regarding the choices of my analyses will be disclosed. The examples will then be divided into tables according to the classifications and the criteria seen in chapter two. In the last part of this study a morphological analysis will be done to the lexical units and hence verify which of this units are included in the DRAE. At the end, some observations of the author are included such as the use of the lexis and even the way in which journalists make use of it.
