Producers organizations and current local farmers' situation : analyzing the local farmers' situation

Abstract

This thesis's aim is to study the local farmers' economical situation and influential presence in the agricultural circle. Moreover light is shed on their attitude towards the current changes and the possible future outcomes of these changes. POs are considered, as a means to empower farmers, improve their economical situation and promote their entrepreneurship and market involvement, also work to encourage them to approach professionals and seek assistance and keep track of innovations and opportunities offered by the government and by the EU. POs are focused on as they are perceived as a better trend than single farmers by the EU and are given due importance as such. The situations and realities of POs in the EU can provide ground for discussion in this thesis since POs in Malta are still a new concept.
