Abstract: | This study explores local University students’ (between the ages of 18 and 24), opinion on news, together with their needs and habits with regards to obtaining and accessing news in the digital age. The study is based on a survey of 189 students. Data was collected through an electronic survey. The findings resulting from the study indicate that students believe news is mainly a means of keeping updated on local and international affairs. Entertainment is also included in the news packing of the students. Furthermore it revealed that students are shying away from traditional media, preferring to keep themselves updated through the online alternatives. Conclusion, limitations and potential enhancement of this study are discussed in the last chapter. |
