Abstract: | Fanfare for Orchestra is a composition highly appropriate as an opening piece for an orchestral concert. The work builds round a theme announced by the brass section in the opening bars. Throughout the piece, this same theme passes through different phases and transformations that generate a range of emotions, from those which can be described as 'comical' to others which are more serious and intense. On the surface, the composition may be described as a show piece for orchestra. More profoundly though, the work celebrates life and the particular and collective aspirations of human beings in their search for the common good of mankind. This composition was premiered in January 2009 by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra at the Presidential Palace in Valletta. |
