dc.description.abstractThe work is an experiment in the field of computer music using artificial intelligence techniques. It involves the design and implementation of a system which accepts a small piece of music, and builds a larger musical composition based on the input. The problem of composing music is regarded as a search problem - a search for a formula that yields pleasant-sounding music. The search strategy applied was that of genetic algorithms, which are used to filter out bad harmonic combinations.en_GB
