Motion sensors, such as accelerometers and other rotation sensors like gyroscopes have increased their popularity in various sectors with the introduction of microelectro-mechanical devices, especially in the field of gaming and entertainment industry. In this final year project, the linear acceleration by using a three-axis accelerometer was examined to get the linear acceleration of the human motion. From the data captured, the orientation of a three-dimensional table tennis paddle was analysed. Also, the velocity and the displacement of the user's motion were calculated. Since, accelerometers were the only type of sensors being used some limitations were encountered, although the results obtained were encouraging. The system could be improved by further implementing other type of motion detection sensors.en_GB
