Abstract: For the last years people have started thinking that terrorism is a trait of Islam and of its followers. The main objective of this dissertation is to show that this is not true. There is no radical Islam as such, however there are radical Muslims which are a small minority of the overall Muslim people. Usually terrorism is the weapon of the poor, and of those forces who know that they cannot win a war using conventional methods due to enemy's greater or more modem military. However this is not always the case, terrorism has been sponsored by rich states for decades now, starting from Iran and ending with the US.A., state sponsored terrorism has ruined more lives and killed many more people than any one terrorist organisation. Terrorism has reared its ugly head everywhere, in all of the five contents and throughout time new ways, means and devices are being used so as the terrorists can gain their objective. The Reagan administration continuously used the term freedom fighters to support terrorists, it was only when U.S. interests started being attacked and its people killed that terrorism emerged as being the word to use. The bad thing about terrorism is that it targets civilians, it has no discrimination who it kills, black or white, young or old, male or female, rich or poor. People who like the rest of us are going on their own way mindful of their business end up killed for a utopian ideology or for political or economic interests which at the end are not feasible for these killings.
