Abstract: The effect of metabolic factors on gene expression needs to be considered in RNA studies and is particularly relevant to replication studies in different populations since the prevalence of these factors varies between populations. Approaches that take into account these variables when searching for suitable disease-associated biomarkers and when analysing transcriptomic data need to be developed.
