Abstract: This book is a most welcome contribution to the study of the Phoenicians. This is especially so when one considers the fact that we possess no solid ancient source that recounts the story of the Phoenicians and that Grainger had to find his way through a maze of useful references scattered amongst the writings of various classical authors. Besides, he also makes use of the most recent archaeological evidence in order to narrate the history of Phoenicia during the Hellenistic period.
