dc.description.abstractTo investigate the effect of socioeconomic status and psychosocial factors on the risk of myocardial infarction (MI). Data collected using an interviewer-led questionnaire from 394 cases at time of MI and 465 controls from the Maltese Acute Myocardial Infarction (MAMI) Study was analysed. Present-day socioeconomic status (SES) was assessed by availability of mobile, television, car, computer, while childhood SES was indicated by access to bathroom, hot water, bedroom, car. Psychological status was investigated by perceived stress, self-description and occurrence of a recent stressful event. Odds ratios (OR) were adjusted for age, gender, smoking, drinking alcohol, hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia and BMI.en_GB
