Report of the 1st International Workshop "Conservation and research networking on short‐beaked common dolphin (Delphinus delphis) in the Mediterranean Sea"

Abstract

Oceanomare Delphis Onlus (Italy), BICREF (Malta) and OceanCare (Switzerland), jointly organized the 1st International Workshop on short-beaked common dolphin (Delphinus delphis, Linneaus 1758), which took place in Ischia, between the 13th and the 15th of April, in order to assess the status of the Mediterranean population, understand the major threats it faces and outline conversation action plans. Furthermore, the process for the IUCN red List re-assessment of the Mediterranean population was started. The workshop brought together representatives of leading academic institutions, NGOs and research groups of the Mediterranean and European countries with contributions from Algeria, France, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Libya, Malta, United Kingdom, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Tunisia and Turkey.
