Abstract: Almost all the waveforms associated with power electronic equipment are non-sinusoidal, that is, contain harmonic components. Current and voltage filters are thus employed to reduce the negative effects caused by the presence of these harmonics. The aim of this project was the simulation, design, construction, and application of passive filters. The main source of harmonics considered was the A.C. Thyristor Voltage Controller. Three simulation softwares were employed, that is, PSpice, PSI/e and TRIP. PSpice was used to obtain the characteristics of various filter circuits. PSI/e is a block-oriented simulation software, which was used to obtain a time-domain characteristic of various waveforms. TRIP was used to transform the waveforms obtained by PSI/e into frequency response waveforms.
