Abstract: The aim of this project is to obtain constant frequency power from a variable speed drive, that is, a generator that operates from wind energy. This has been achieved by using a microprocessor-based pulse width modulation technique, which gave accurate results due to the amount of pulses per cycle. To obtain efficient operation, a system shut down is developed, such that it operates at reasonable wind speeds. This thesis is a joint project, where most of the Hardware Design and the Software of the system shut down was tackled by V. Bonello. The Software Design and the Hardware of the shutdown system was done by T. Aquilina.
