Abstract: | It gives me great pleasure to present to you this lecture entitled Endeavouring beyond fifteen generations in the Mediterranean. A Xerri-Buttigieg family case study.. To introduce myself, I am a diplomat from Malta here in Canberra. XERRI is my father's surname and BUTTIGIEG is my mother's surname. I have been researching my family history since 1994 and I have compiled over 10,000 profiles of members of my family. These are exhibited on the island of Gozo, the sister island of Malta, where I reside. However, this lecture is not only about the Xerri-Buttigieg Family, the country of Malta and the Mediterranean. It will broaden further the horizons of genealogy and heraldry in most continents including Australia and at the same time bring to light the paramount importance of the Mediterranean to genealogy and heraldry research in Western Civilisation.
