A workflow-based IDE for WAP development

Abstract

Due to the action and reaction paradigm of mobile commerce applications, the success or failure of these applications depends almost exclusively on the user experience they deliver. Unfortunately the current crop of mobile commerce application development tools do not place this user experience at the focal point of their development paradigm. This results in the creation of complex applications that are difficult to use. The aim of the project at hand is to create a tool that permits a developer to create WAP applications whilst concentrating on the end-user experience. The eventual end-user experience provided by the application being created should be the main driver throughout all development stages. Since WAP applications consist almost exclusively of dynamically generated content, the tool should provide means with which the generation of this content is facilitated. This report describes the design and implementation of the WAP Workflow Integrated Development Environment. This IDE was developed to overcome the shortcomings of the current WAP application development tools and it should therefore prove to be the ideal WAP application development tool. Using this tool, developers may visually create even the most complex of WAP applications, in many cases without writing a single line of code.
