Abstract: Background and objective: To explore the perceptions of hospital physicians and clinical pharmacists, with the aim of identifying factors that enhance or hinder collaborative practice. Setting and method: Focus group discussions, one with hospital physicians and one with clinical pharmacists practicing in an acute general state hospital in Malta were conducted. Focus group discussion guide from extensive literature review on Physician-Pharmacist Collaboration, clinical pharmacists’ role and delegated authority. Development of explanatory theories for the emerging themes applying grounded theory approaches. Main outcome measures: Barriers and facilitators to improved collaborative practice. Results: Eight key themes have emerged from the discussions.
