During the last forty years there has been tremendous interest in the sea and the life contained within it. Many people have taken skin diving and subacqua diving as their hobby and this sport is becoming more popular as time goes by and equipment becomes more refined. Great advances have been made in the equipment used underwater, both for professional divers working in difficult conditions and also for the amateur diver. These new developments usually are very expensive when they are original produced, an example being underwater communication systems. These enable divers to communicate easily and removes one of the main obstacles of diving safely. The aim of this project is to analyse the various methods of transmission of speech underwater, and then design a system to be used by SCUBA divers. This system has to be compact, easy to operate, portable and provide omnidirectional transmission to a range of about 100 meters, which should be enough for most purposes. It also has to be as cheap as possible to produce, so as to be within the reach of all the ordinary people who enjoy diving as a hobby and who do not wish to spend hundreds of pounds for a small piece of auxiliary equipment, such as this under water transceiver.en_GB
