Boys' Junior Lyceum entry 1992 : a follow up

Abstract

The aim of this longitudinal study was to make a follow up of the students who entered Liceo Vassalli in October 1992. The students were observed throughout their five year course at the Junior Lyceum. The school records provided the necessary information. There were two categories of students: "normal" and "slowed”. "Normal” students were those born in 1981, and thus proceeded normally from Year I primary to Form I Junior Lyceum without repeating any year, whilst "slowed" ones were those born in 1980, thus coming to Liceo Vassalli Form I after having repeated some year. The year of birth, annual examination marks for English, and Mathematics obtained after their first year at Liceo Vassalli, S.E.C./G.C.E. O' level passes and post-secondary education in October 1997 were traced for every single student. Destination of students who failed to go to post-secondary education was noted. The number of dropouts and repeaters, together with the distribution of pupils at the end of course by category were also investigated.
