It is a commonplace that the archaeology of religion is one of the most difficult branches of archaeological research. The archaeology of religion in the Maltese islands during what the author terms the 'prehistoric phases' of Phoenician Malta certainly offers no exception to the general rule. Indeed to try and figure out the main characteristics of religion in the Maltese archipelago during the aforementioned span of time seems to be a frustrating exercise. And yet. a closer look at some of the available evidence can help us gain a better picture of . religion in Malta during this period.en_GB
