Abstract: This FYP focuses on modeling the mirage and heat shimmering phenomena in a physically based manner for graphic rendering, while maintaining real-time performance. The principal aim of this project is the development of a novel, real-time mirage simulation method inspired by previous, more computationally expensive and physically based solutions. The project begins by exploring the work carried out previously and adapts techniques from such studies for use with rasterization rendering. The result is the creation of a novel, physically based method for simulating and rendering the phenomena in real-time.
