The BOSIT system

Abstract

The Board of Studies for Information Technology at the University of Malta is an academic organisation consisting of entities coming from three separate departments namely, the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, the Department of Computer Information Systems, and the Department of Communications and Computer Engineering. Working in collaboration with each other, these departments promote a four year course degree in B.Sc.IT (Hons). Throughout the different course years the Board of Studies aims to bring about an academic structure, which is efficient and beneficial to all of its pertaining entities. The Board in fact recognises the need for a system, which will provide such entities - administrator, lecturer, student, with an organised and efficient approach towards their respective academic work. 'The BOSIT System' project is a working system, which operates in perspective of the mentioned academic organisation. Providing an interface for interaction over the Internet, the system promotes a collection of various tools and utilities, which work in view of providing both organisational and academical benefits for the various system users. While a number of included features simplify interaction between the system entities, other features are also dedicated to generating statistical results, which will help users make the correct decisions regarding possible future academic status. The contents of this dissertation, document all the work involved throughout the development stages of the system. The included chapters give a walk-through of the project's progress, starting from the early stages of research and investigation, right up to the later stages of implementation and operability
