Abstract: | The aim of this project as the title indicates is ' to deal with the design of the ship hull and to construct a stability testing rig. The rig consists of the design and construction of: a) a fibre-glass model with an overall length of about 1.7m. b) a stability dynamometer. c) a fibre glass tank and supporting frame. One might ask "What is the connection between ship hull design and the ship' stability." But there is and in fact it is the task of a naval architect to examine the stability of the hull he is designing before it is constructed. Our primary aim is to construct the rig, especially the dynamometer. But of the same importance is a model ship to match and we think it is adequate to include the theory that goed with ship hull design. So we got acquainted with nomenclature, calculations and procedure of hull design. We put our efforts in this project to achieve the best results possible hoping that this stability testing rig will be used by future students. |
